Art – Art robot

ART is a variation of ARS, the Art Robot Swarm. It extends the earlier system by improving the robot’s ability to detect obstacles, recognise colours and make autonomous decisions during the painting process.

The robot begins with a brief random phase, producing initial sketch-like marks on the canvas. From this starting point, it identifies specific areas of interest and gradually concentrates its activity around them. Each robot is associated with a single colour, which it is able to recognise and follow. Through this process of detection, response and accumulation, the robot generates a composition that is more defined, structured and visually deliberate.

Like ARS, ART does not execute a predefined image. The painting emerges from the robot’s behaviour, from its interaction with the canvas, and from the traces left by previous actions. Its artificial intelligence is based on sensor information, colour recognition, stigmergy and emergence, allowing the work to develop without direct human intervention.

ART continues my investigation into autonomous machine creativity: not the robot as a tool, but as an active agent capable of producing unique abstract paintings.

ART results from a collaboration with VisionVolt.
