CAD/CAM machine as a one arm robot Swarm paintings
The Swarm Paintings, produced in 2001, were the result of several experiments with an "Ant Algorithm" where I have tried to apply virtual emergent pheromone trails to a real space pictorial expression. In this case, a computer running an ant algorithm was connected to a robotic arm (in fact a CAD/CAM machine), which "translated" in pencil or brush strokes the trails generated by the artificial swarm of ants. Considering the dynamics of the deposition/evaporation mechanism, the robotic arm would only perform when a certain pheromone peak threshold was reached. Swarm Paintings opened the path to my use of robotics in what concerns emergent machine creativity.
